Celebrating Nurse Julianna

Chloe surrounded by mom, brothers, and Nurse JulieBy Jessica, Chloe's Mom

Before we had in-home nursing care, I thought we were doing fine. I was Mom, after all, and who better to care for my child than me? I could not have been more wrong.

When I first met Nurse Julie it was about three weeks after Chloe had her first two-week stay in the ICU, and it was also the day I came home from an emergency appendectomy. I was very apprehensive about this new person coming into our home. However, I was on a hefty dose of pain medicine, so my apprehension was swallowed by my drowsiness.

That was three years ago. Since then, Julie has been with our family through countless hospital stays, four major surgeries on Chloe's tiny body, three house moves, one divorce, and all the ups and downs that fill up the in between. Chloe very decisively chooses Julie over mom. Julie has become Chloe's best friend (to the point of Chloe telling me with her eyes to leave when Julie gets there), my trusted advisor, and even the boys "second mom." Julie is the ultimate professional, always taking the utmost care of Chloe, even when she is bogged down with the seemingly endless charting she must do. She is one of the most hardworking and dependable people I have ever known. Three years ago, I thought, "Who could care for my child as well as I can?" The answer has been Julianna Hunt. And now the question is, "What would we ever do without her?"
