How Puzzles and Games Help Delay Alzheimer’s Disease
Published Aug. 6, 2021

A new study suggests that having an active mind in old age may delay Alzheimer's disease by up to five years. For the study, researchers collected data on nearly 2,000 people with an average age of 80 who did not have dementia at the start of the study.

The concept of actively engaging your brain to ward off dementia is not new. According to the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation, playing brain games can help keep your brain healthy and active. If you need some ideas for games to try, this list can help:

Puzzles: Whether you choose crosswords, Sudoku, scrabble, or jigsaw puzzles, these activities sharpen your strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

Cards: Playing a round of cards challenges your brain. It also provides an opportunity to socialize with other friends and family members, making it a great stress-busting activity. You can also download card games on your smartphone.

Matching and Memory Games: These games help you actively engage in memorization techniques. You can find matching games online or at many retail locations.
