Excelling with Enteral Nutrition
Published Feb. 22, 2019

Meet Mason! Turning three years old this February, Mason has been such a superstar since the day he was born. He and his family are happy to share his story to celebrate Mason’s health progress in addition to Feeding Tube Awareness Week.

Mason is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus. He is also legally blind, has a feeding tube, and is a non-verbal communicator. With these challenges, Mason and his parents joined Aveanna Healthcare’s medical solutions family in April of 2018. Mason has been excelling ever since. He currently receives enteral nutrition, incontinence, and suction supplies from Aveanna.

According to Ashley, Mason’s mother, “Mason has made so many improvements since Aveanna stepped in to help us with his care plan. He has started using his stander and has been tolerating it well. Mason had almost no head control and needed full assistance to sit last April, but now he is able to sit unsupported for about ten seconds at a time. Mason has also improved his fine motor skills. Six months ago he wouldn't pick up a single toy and now he shakes rattles, uses switch-activated toys, and so much more!”

Mason loves spending time with his parents. He loves listening to cartoons and really enjoys playing with his switch-activated toys. Mason is a very happy-go-lucky kid and is always sharing his beautiful smile.

We admire the strength and perseverance we’ve gotten to witness firsthand while working with Mason and his family. We wish you the happiest of birthdays, Mason, and we look forward to all we will accomplish together this year!
