In many ways, Paula’s career in home health found her. She hadn’t planned to become a nurse. But experiences caring for her premature child and her mother who needed home health pushed Paula to explore the possibilities of a nursing career. What she found was a deep passion and sense of purpose that changed her life and work forever.
“Nursing is my second career,” Paula shares. “I decided to get into nursing 15 years ago when my mother had several health issues and needed home health. I was getting ready to re-enter the workforce after taking care of my premature infant and was so impressed by the services my mother received. I fell in love with a career that would allow me to provide the same type of care my mother received to the aging population.”
Paula was confident in her decision to become a nurse and knew exactly what path she wanted to take as an RN. She has never looked back. “I entered nursing school with the goal of going into home health after graduation,” she recalls. “I achieved that goal and have loved my work in home health every day since!”
Just as she expected, Paula found that home health nursing is a unique and incredibly rewarding field. She has continued to grow in it, becoming a Clinical Manager and later an Executive Director. While her current role is different from the hands-on nursing care she originally provided, Paula is still connected to the same profound sense purpose.
“I love being an Aveanna Home Health Executive Director because it combines my love of education with my desire to enrich the lives of the patients we serve,” Paula explains. “As a home health field nurse, Clinical Manager, and Executive Director, I have been blessed to not only directly impact the health and everyday lives of so many patients, but also educate my clinicians and team on how to provide excellent care to our patients.”
In whatever role she holds, Paula is patient-focused and mission-driven.
