Home for the Holidays: Xavier
Published Jan. 10, 2020

Xavier in the NICUOur patient Xavier was born in December of 2018 with multiple challenging diagnoses. During the first year of his life, Xavier overcame many obstacles, including pneumonia, intrapulmonary hemorrhage, infections, and almost every diagnostic test and procedure you could imagine.

It was a difficult time for Xavier and his family, but he is a fighter. After 11 months in the hospital, Xavier was well enough to be discharged home with private duty nursing last November. Xavier’s mom, Erica, was finally able to take her only child home.

Xavier smiling and playing with toysAs Xavier left the hospital, he was able to feel the sunshine and wind on his face for the first time in his life. He exited the building to applause from the hospital staff and began his very first ride home.

As Erica says, Xavier has come a long way. We are amazed by his fighting spirit and his incredible progress. He is a joy and a constant reminder of why we do what we do here at Aveanna. We are proud to have played a part in bringing this little one home, just in time for the holidays.
