Ambitious and determined, Tommy doesn’t let anything stop him from achieving his dreams. Last month, he reached an exciting milestone with the help of his Aveanna team.
Tommy lives with spina bifida and has received Home Health Aide services from Aveanna since 2020. After a recent hospital stay, Tommy needed Private Duty Nursing services as well. He turned to his Aveanna team once again for assistance.
Director of Hospital Engagement Will met up with Tommy during his hospital stay to help coordinate the care he needed at home. The rest of his Aveanna team worked hard to secure ongoing daytime nursing for Tommy so that he could go back to high school to complete his finals, create more memories with his teachers and friends, and attend his graduation ceremony. They found the perfect nurse to help Tommy reach his goals – Nurse Luis.
Luis has been a nurse since 2018 and part of the Aveanna team since 2019. He is phenomenal and extremely talented, consistently going above and beyond for his patients. And he is a relentless advocate for Tommy and his family.
Tommy graduated on June 10th with Nurse Luis by his side. Luis made sure Tommy had all the support he needed to graduation day so that he and his family could focus on celebrating this special day. Nurse Luis was honored to be part of this amazing milestone.
Tommy is planning to major in Zoology, with the future goal of becoming a zookeeper. Naturally, he has a deep love for biology and all things animals, especially reptiles. One tough decision that he’ll face as college approaches is deciding who will take care of his pets – 2 snakes, 1 lizard, 1 bird, 1 large dog, and the list just keep growing!
With Nurse Luis by his side, Tommy is starting this new chapter off strong. We know great things are on the horizon for Tommy and feel privileged to be part of his journey. Congratulations, Tommy! We can’t wait to see what you do next.
