Daycare can play an important role in helping children learn, grow, and connect with others. But if your child has complex medical needs, finding a setting that can safely support them isn't easy. That's where Aveanna's Pediatric Day Health Care Centers (PDHCs) come in. Our centers offer the same opportunities for socialization and development as traditional daycares, with the added support of skilled nursing care and therapies throughout the day.
What is a Pediatric Day Health Care Center?
A Pediatric Day Health Care Center is designed specifically for children with complex or high-risk medical conditions who require skilled nursing care during the day. These centers provide a structured setting where children can receive medical care while also engaging in age-appropriate learning and social activities.
At Aveanna, PDHCs are bright, engaging environments where children can play, interact with peers, and work toward developmental milestones while receiving the care they need.
There are several different names for the type of service offered in our PDHCs. The programs vary from state to state, but the services are similar. Other names include Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC), Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center (PPECC), Pediatric Extended Care Center (PECC), or Medical Day Care (MDC).
What Services Do PDHCs Provide?
Aveanna's PDHCs offer a wide range of services to support both medical stability and developmental growth, including:
- Skilled pediatric nursing care provided throughout the day
- Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services

- Peer socialization opportunities for children with similar needs
- Transportation services to help families access care
