Year of the Nurse: Zayda and Nurse Gail
Published Aug. 28, 2020
Mrs. Linda “Gail” Newsome has been an LPN with Aveanna since 2014. Gail is one of the most compassionate nurses and goes above and beyond to keep her patient happy and safe. She takes pride in doing her job correctly, welcomes advice from her supervisor, and always strives to be a better nurse.

Gail has cared for our patient Zayda, who is five years old now, since she came home from the NICU at seven months old. Not only has Gail provided excellent care for Zayda and built a trusting relationship with her parents, she has also taught Zayda sign language.

Gail credits her passion for nursing and her care for Zayda to her daughter, Wendy. June 2020 marked 5 years since Gail lost her daughter to complications related to tracheal stenosis. It was shortly after this that Mrs. Gail was assigned to care for Zayda, an infant that was trach and G-tube dependent. She felt an immediate bond with Zayda from their first day together.

Zayda’s mother, April, loves Mrs. Gail and is forever grateful for the care she has provided over the last 5 years. All of us at Aveanna are so proud to have such a wonderful nurse on our staff. Mrs. Gail is the true definition of a compassionate, skilled pediatric nurse.
